Why we’re adding optional accounts
Structured training works over weeks, not in a single session. A good interval workout matters less than whether it sits in a sensible week, whether the week before was harder or easier, and whether you actually rode it.
The public tools are deliberately stateless: work out your zones, build a session, download it, done. Nothing is kept, so every visit starts from zero. That’s fine for a one-off workout and frustrating for a plan. Accounts are the place to keep that continuity — and they’re optional. If all you need is a FIT file for tomorrow’s ride, you won’t have to sign up for anything.
What you can do today without an account
Work out your power zones
The power zone calculator turns your FTP into six cycling power zones in watts, with watts per kilogram and what each zone is used for.
Estimate a climb
The climb calculator estimates your time up a climb from your power and weight, or the power a target time needs, with speed, VAM, W/kg and where your watts go.
Build a structured workout and send it to your bike computer
The workout builder lets you put together warmup, intervals, repeat blocks and cooldown with %FTP, watts, heart-rate or cadence targets. It draws the workout, estimates duration, time in zones and training load, and downloads a FIT workout file for your bike computer.
Learn the training behind the numbers
The guides explain FTP and power zones, how to read a structured workout and where recovery fits in a plan.
What saved workouts and plans will enable
A workout library you don’t have to rebuild
Workouts you build are saved with their full structure — every step, repeat and target — so you can open one, adjust an interval and ride it again, rather than starting over in the builder.
Training plans on a calendar
Start from a built-in plan or write your own, up to 12 weeks, then apply it to your calendar from any Monday. Download a single workout or a whole week as FIT files for a Garmin Edge, or as .ZWO / .ERG for trainer apps.
Your numbers, set once
Your FTP, weekly training hours and goal live in your profile. Zones use the same definitions as the public calculator, so targets in every workout are shown in your own watts, and they update when your FTP does.
Monitoring your training load
Every session carries a training-load estimate — the workout builder already shows one for a single workout. With an account, those estimates add up over time into a longer-term load that reflects the training you’ve absorbed, a short-term load that reflects recent fatigue, and form, the balance between the two.
That is what the daily suggestion works from: it leans easier when your logged readiness is low or fatigue is high. These are estimates to support your judgement, not a diagnosis, and how you feel on the bike still counts.
Show the weekly numbers
| Week | Weekly load | Fitness | Fatigue | Form |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 325 | 34 | 44 | −9 |
| 2 | 358 | 37 | 51 | −14 |
| 3 | 391 | 40 | 56 | −16 |
| 4 | 164 | 37 | 36 | +2 |
| 5 | 358 | 40 | 48 | −8 |

Fitness, fatigue and form are shown as at the end of each week.
Your dashboard and training history
Your day opens on today’s session, readiness and load at a glance. Connect Strava to import rides with duration, distance, power, heart rate and cadence, mark planned sessions complete, and see performance trends over time — the view that tells you whether a plan is working.
Privacy and what stays on your device
Without an account there is nothing to remember you by. Values you type into the calculators stay in your browser. When you download a FIT file, the workout is sent to our server only to build the file and isn’t stored.
With an account, your workouts, plans and profile are stored so they can be shown back to you. Strava is only involved if you connect it, and disconnecting removes the stored tokens. A coach sees your training only after you accept their invitation, and you can remove a coach at any time. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored.
Why the tools are free
SurgeIQ Lab is being built around a simple idea: you should be able to understand your cycling without another subscription. Other cycling platforms may reserve advanced analytics for paid plans; we want useful stats, and plain explanations of what they mean, to be accessible for free.
The calculator and the builder are small, focused tools, and they’re the clearest way to show how SurgeIQ Lab approaches structured training. We’d rather earn a return visit than ask for an email address first. If the tools are useful, some riders will want somewhere to keep their training; that’s what accounts are for, and they’re planned to be free as well.
Frequently asked questions about upcoming features
Are these tools free?
Yes. The power zone calculator, the climb calculator, the workout builder and the guides are free to use, and the upcoming account features are planned to be free as well.
Will I need a subscription to see my cycling stats?
No. SurgeIQ Lab is being built so that useful cycling stats are free: power zones and workout load estimates today, and fitness, fatigue, form and ride history with the free accounts that are coming soon.
Do I need an account today?
No. The public tools work without an account, and they will keep working without one after accounts launch.
Why would I create an account in the future?
To keep what you build. An account will let you save workouts and training plans, schedule them on a calendar, keep your FTP and zones on file, import rides from Strava and follow your training load and history over time, from any device you sign in on.
When will accounts be available?
Coming very soon. Bookmark the site and check back for updates.
What happens to what I enter in the tools today?
Values you type into the calculators stay in your browser. When you download a FIT file from the workout builder, the workout is sent to our server only to build the file and is not stored. Nothing is kept between visits.
Will coaches be able to use accounts?
Yes. Coaches will be able to write multi-week plans once, assign them to athletes who accept an invitation, review them as drafts and publish them when they are ready.
Will accounts sync with Strava or my bike computer?
You will be able to import rides from Strava once you connect it. Workouts download as FIT files for bike computers such as a Garmin Edge, or as .ZWO and .ERG files for trainer apps. Direct sync with Garmin Connect or Wahoo is not available yet.
